Marking Criteria

Here is the marking criteria, that will provide as a 'checklist' for my assignment:

Problem

·    Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the problem presented by outlining the prominent criterion (important criteria) and limitations within the Design Brief.
·    Constructs a mind-map to thoroughly analyse the design brief, highlighting potential solutions. Use of http://www.spiderscribe.net/ is recommended.
·    Construct a detailed table outlining the i) Technical, ii) Operational iii) Financial and iv) Social & Ethical factors that will impact on the solution to the problem for further exploration (see Wilson, p. 2).
·    Constructs a thorough Gantt chart providing a detailed time plan of each stage of the project. Use of http://www.tomsplanner.com/ is recommended.

Research

Demonstrates a thorough understanding of the processes undertaken in researching Database Development  by;

·    Thoroughly define and describe a database.
·    Construct a detailed diagram of your choice to compare and contrast flat file and relational databases. Provide examples.
·    Explain in detail why an electronic database is a suitable solution for your design brief.
·    Thoroughly outline what is meant by ‘DBMS’.
·    Complete the following table in detail to demonstrate an understanding of the components of your chosen database.

File

Record

Field

Character

·    Identify and accurately defines all the data types.
·    Develop and expand on the technical factors that will impact on the solution to the problem by providing a detailed proposal of the i) Software and ii) Hardware required to implement and maintain a database.
·    Develop and expand on the operational factors that will impact on the solution to the problem by outlining  and justifying  how the new database will;
i)               Assist in meeting the TAP OUT Inc.’s overall goal.
ii)             Be operational within the required time frame
·    Develop and expand on the financial factors that will impact on Underwood’s solution to the problem by constructing a detailed budget on the i) design, ii) development, iii) implementation, iv) testing, v) evaluation and vi) maintenance of the database.
·    Develop and expand on the social & ethical factors that will impact on the solution to the problem by outlining a range of issues and where appropriate a solution to the issue. At a minimum, your answer should include the following;
i.               Correct use of Data, including privacy
ii.              Security of data
iii.            Access of data
iv.            Integrity of data
v.              Employment and/or the changing nature of work
vi.            Ergonomics
·    Constructs a well developed bibliography utilising the attaché

Ideas

Demonstrates the ability to Design a Solution by providing a detailed & accurate account of the following;

·      Construct a well developed survey that enables the Database Developer (you) to determine what data needs to be entered into the database during an interview with the manager of TAP OUT Inc.
·      Thoroughly defines and explains three communication techniques (Wilson, p. 15) that you would use to conduct your interview.
·      Complete the following table, which identifies each of the required database inputs (FIELD NAMES), which were identified during your interview and justify their inclusion. Table below has one example.

Inputs (data)
Table
Justification
Client Address
Client Table
So communication can be maintained with client (including promotions and unpaid bills)

·      Thoroughly defines a primary key and foreign key.
·      Construct a detailed data dictionary, illustrating and describing data types within each of the required tables as specified in the limitations. Must include Primary and Foreign Keys.
·      Construct a well developed sketch of a form for your customer table (a hand drawn sketch is acceptable).
·      Thoroughly compares and contrasts validation and verification, providing an example of how you would use each within your database.

·      List and justify three appropriate reports you may require.
·      List and justify three appropriate queries you may require.
·      Constructs a detailed table, proposing how you intend on maintaining the five prominent data security methods for your database (Wilson, p. 123-124).

Make

Demonstrates the ability to construct and develop a high quality Database by;

·      Constructs a detailed relational database.
·      Constructs three detailed data dictionaries which is formatted correctly, and has all field names, data types and descriptions correctly entered.
·      Constructs a minimum of three detailed tables (as per Design Brief) including the required fields and data types.
·      Constructs a primary key for each table.
·      Constructs a well-developed and formatted form to enter data into each of the three tables.
·      Inputs appropriate data into each of the 3 tables, while adhering to the specified limitations.
·      Constructs two well developed and appropriate queries.
·      Constructs two well developed and formatted reports using the two queries you developed.
·      Constructs an accurate and successful mail merge.
·      Constructs a front switch for ease of use
·      Constructs a compressed file of your database (e.g. zip, winrar) and successfully emails file (include your name in the file) to teacher.

Evaluate

Constructs a detailed and thorough evaluation of the Process, Product, Personal and Peers. This must include all of the following:

·    Clearly evaluates the Process undertaking during this project. Reference to the use of the PRIME Design Process is thoroughly documented within your Design Portfolio.
·    Clearly evaluates the Product produced during this project. Reference to the database is required.
·    Clearly evaluates the Personal (your self), commitment and involvement shown during the project.
·    Provides a clear Peer evaluation (from 2 class members) on your project.
